How to Prepare Students

Kiosk I.JPG

Review home addresses with students.

Discuss how to read an address with students: find house number and street sign.

An emergency may not occur at your own home. (Friends, grandparents, other relatives home, etc.)

Have child identify (with parent/guardian) a safe neighbor to go to for help.

Have students identify a meeting place outside the home (with parent/guardian) where all occupants/family members will meet in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Explain the importance of reporting to the meeting place; all members of household accounted for; need for rescue; safety. Examples: neighbors porch, tree, light post, mail box, any permanent object. Never use a car or other object that could be moved. Make sure the meeting place is not TOO close to the house.

Have students take home the student parent checklist provided.
